I Almost Slept Through the Best Two Minutes of My Day
How I start my day on the GC, Australia : sunrise, gym and a proper breakfast.
By Dhruv
Do you know how I start my day? Not at a desk and not with email. I start it on the beach, before the sun is up. Miami has my heart.
1. Sunrise first

Getting out of bed in the dark is never easy, but I have never regretted going. This photo is the reason.
Most sunrises here are gold. This one came up red. The sun was only halfway out of the sea, the sky around it was deep red fading into orange, and the edges of the clouds had turned into thin gold lines.
It lasted about two minutes. One more snooze and I would have slept straight through it.
2. Something warm to go with it

My stop is Nectar Espresso Cafe, Miami, Goldcoast. I call it my morning coffee, but I'll be honest. Most days it's a hot chocolate with hazelnut. I hold it in both hands, stand in the sun and do nothing at all for a few minutes.
That morning the cup said, “Send this to someone who makes you smile!” So this post is me sending it.
3. Then the gym

Once I'm properly awake, I head to Goodlife in Mermaid Waters. I'm not in there to compete with anyone. The only person I'm trying to beat is the one who walked in yesterday. You vs you.
Training early also means it's done. Whatever the day turns into, that part is already ticked off.
4. Home for a healthy breakfast
I come home hungry, which is the best way to eat breakfast. I rotate between two. Both are high in protein and take about five minutes.
Avocado and cottage cheese toast

Recipe from JSHealth.
Ingredients
- 2 slices sourdough, or 1 large slice
- ½ avocado
- 100 g cottage cheese
- 1 tsp honey
- 1 tsp chilli flakes
- Sea salt and black pepper
Method
- Toast the bread.
- Smash the avocado with a fork, spread it on the toast, and season with salt and pepper.
- Spoon the cottage cheese on top, then finish with the honey and chilli flakes.
Protein berry yogurt oats bowl

This is the one I have on the other days.
Ingredients
- 1 handful oats
- ½ cup Greek yogurt
- 2 tbsp chia seeds
- 1 scoop protein powder
- Strawberries, blueberries and pomegranate seeds
- 5 almonds, chopped
Method
- Stir the oats, yogurt and protein powder together in a bowl.
- Top with the berries, pomegranate seeds, chia seeds and almonds.
Why it works
By the time I open the laptop, I've seen something beautiful, trained and eaten well. The day hasn't asked me for anything yet and I already feel ahead.
Try it once this week. Set an alarm, face east, take something warm to drink, and tell me what colour you got.
